Kasey Chambers
Country / Alternative
sun 3 - 4.15 pm | abC radio stage
The daughter of a professional foxhunter, fisherman and part-time musician, Kasey Chambers grew up in a small fishing village in South Australia and the vast expanses of the desolate Nullarbor Plain. Kasey's career started when she began singing with her family in the 'Dead Ringer Band' which included dad Bill, mother Diane and brother Nash and saw them touring all over Australia by the time she was a teenager.

It wasn't until she began her solo career that Kasey's path would lead her to become an Australian household name and receive accolades from around the world. Her last 4 albums have reached #1 and all 5 albums achieving platinum or multi-platinum sales.

In 2008 Rattlin' Bones picked up the Aria award for Best Country Album, exceeded platinum sales and also received a whopping 5 Golden Guitar Awards at Tamworth including, 'Album of the Year', APRA 'Song of the Year' and 'Single of the Year'.

Throughout her career Kasey has earned the respect of some musical giants such as Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, Dwight Yokham, Ben Harper and author/filmmaker Michael Moore to name a few.

Always moving forward, Kasey is currently working on the next project 'Kasey Chambers, Poppa Bill & The Little Hillbillies'. This includes her first children's book and joint effort Album with her Dad Bill, which also sees the debut of a new generation of singer/songwriters. The Little Hillbillies are made up of Kasey's sons Talon and Arlo, Bill's further additions, Jake and Tyler, Nash's tribe of 3, Eden, Skye and Béla and best friend Worm's son Townes.

Kasey Chambers, Poppa Bill & The Little Hillbillies album and children's book are out now.

Kasey Chambers will be an absolute highlight of the 2010 Apollo Bay Music Festival performing songs from throughout her stellar career.

The Flatlanders (USA)
Australian premiere performance
Country
sat 7.30 - 8.45 pm | abC radio stage
The fact that Texas music titans Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock - on their first go-round as The Flatlanders in 1972 - were completely rejected by the country music establishment is surprising in retrospect but, ultimately, poetic. That each went on to have formidable solo careers is a testament to their talent and determination. Add to this their diverse yet complimentary styles - Joe the street-wise rocker, Jimmie Dale the mystic with the classic country voice and Butch the cerebral folk singer and you've got a story of one of the most extraordinary kinships in American musical history.

Joe, Jimmie and Butch initially reunited as The Flatlanders in 1998 to do a one-off recording, at the behest of Robert Redford's people, for the soundtrack of The Horse Whisperer. It was so much fun, the trio regrouped and cut an entire album. The result, Now Again, was unanimously received as a triumph. Mojo Magazine dubbed them a 'country Beatles.' Rolling Stone gave it 3 & 1/2 stars. The Washington Post said, "Given the jaw-dropping quality of the disc, three decades almost seems a reasonable wait." Billboard raved, "An event record that lives up to all expectations." Now Again spent 17 weeks at #1 on the Americana charts and 21 weeks on the Billboard Country charts.

It was only a matter of weeks after the band had completed an 80-date U.S. and European tour when they re-entered the studio.

"We didn't want to go another 30 years before we made a record," Ely says.
In March 2003, the Flatlanders and their band - Robbie Gjersoe (guitars, banjo, vocals), Steve Wesson (musical saw), Tony Pearson (vocals), Gary Herman (bass), and Chris Searles (drums) - convened at Joe Ely's Austin studio, with Ely again producing. Guests included steel guitarist (and noted producer) Lloyd Maines, guitarist Mitch Watkins, and accordionist Joel Guzman.

Ely adds, "We've always been close, but now I think that we all realize that this is something that is really special. There are very few people who have remained as close as we have, especially in the music world...We consider this a real precious thing."

"For it to still be as much fun as it was in the beginning, I feel blessed," says Gilmore. "A lot of musicians don't get that luxury".

Lil' Band O' Gold (USA)
cajun rock
sat 10.45 - 12.30 am | abC radio stage
Lil Band O' Gold features some of the most influential musicians to ever have emerged from America's most important musical state. The outfit was assembled by vocalist and guitarist CC Adcock, who searched the swamps and flatlands of South Louisiana to form a band of his childhood heroes. This process was captured for the documentary The Promised Land: A Swamp Pop Journey which was a feature at the Tribeca, SxSW and Melbourne International Film Festivals.

Each member of Lil' Band O' Gold is a master of a separate style, both diverse and exciting and collectively they comprise a mix of unsurpassed talents. We are delighted to premiere this incredible act, and the Li' Band O Gold are:-

CC Adcock - Lafayette born CC Adcock, a musician of meteoric talent, has packed a lot of living into his 35 years with long stints slinging guitar with Bo Diddley and Buckwheat Zydeco, two highly acclaimed solo records, two feature film scores, album productions and thousands of live shows worldwide. For many years CC has had a complete command of the influences of his region, bringing together old and young to nurture and further the true sounds of Acadiana. Considered a genius by many including legendary record producer Jack Nietzsche, CC has played and recorded with the best of them and is without doubt one of the South's brightest rising stars. CC is the founding member of Lil' Band O' Gold.

Warren Storm - born in Vermillion Parish, Louisiana in 1937, Warren Storm is considered the "Godfather of Swamp Pop'. At the age of 68, his voice is still second to none. Warren has been responsible for dozens of national and regional hit records since he first broke the US charts in 1958 with 'The Prisoner Song', selling 250,000 copies. Working at the legendary Jay Miller studios in Crowley, Louisiana, Warren was also hired as the "in house" drummer, playing on numerous Blues hits for the likes of Lightning Slim, Slim Harpo, Lonesome Sundown, Lazy Lester, Carol Flan and many others.
Warren is indeed a living legend and holds places in the Louisiana Hall of Fame and Gulf Coast Hall of Fame. He sings and plays drums for Lil' Band O' Gold.

Steve Riley - grew up in the prairie town of Mamou, Louisiana, where French is spoken on the street; the national holiday is Mardi Gras and a poor family is one without a fiddler or accordion player. By the age of 12, Steve was considered an accordion prodigy and by 13 he had been snapped up by Cajun legend Dewy Balfa for his band. In 1991, Steve started his own band, Steve Riley and The Mamou Playboys, who have recorded seven albums, won countless awards and been nominated for three Grammy Awards. Steve is widely considered one of the world's premier accordion players. He sings and plays the accordion for Lil' Band O' Gold.

Tommy McLain - Born in 1940 into a family of musicians, he is considered the founding father of Swamp Pop music. In 1966, with the Boogie Kings, he cut a record for Floyd Soileauis's Jin label that resulted in the multimillion-selling smash 'Sweet Dreams'. He has never stopped performing and has enjoyed much success and recognition the world over, touring with the Rolling Stones, ZZ Top and the Yardbirds. He has even found time to be ordained as a Catholic minister. He continues to spread his gospel of love and music on his weekly radio show on Radio Maria broadcast from Alexandria, Louisiana.

Jazzman "Dickie" Landry plays his "own kind" of sax. When Dickie has to play he has to play and people such as Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, Paul Simon, The Phillip Glass Ensemble, Laurie Anderson and The Talking Heads have reaped the rewards of his unique styling. He is also considered a pioneer of conceptual art and installations, having worked with Richard Serra, Gordon Matte-Clark and Rauschenberg in the early 60s. Born in Cecelia, Louisiana, Dickie is still revered there as the man who can do it all and fix any problem. At 68 years old he is rarely seen on any given night without his sax, wandering the Lafayette streets and sitting in with everyone. He plays saxophone for Lil' Band O' Gold.

David Egan is one America's premier song writers, having written songs for Percy Sledge, Joe Cocker, Etta James, Johnny Adams, Mavis Staples, Irma Thomas, Marcia Ball, The Fabulous Thunderbirds and many others. David now writes songs, plays piano and sings with Lil' Band O' Gold.

Lil' Buck Senegal is unquestionably one of the world's greatest living blues guitar players. Born in Lafayette, Louisiana, in 1940, Buck still lives in the same house on St. Charles Street. He has played with everyone from Percy Sledge to Alan Toussaint to Joe Tex, and most notably spent 14 years as guitar player for the undisputed "King of Zydeco", Clifton Chenier (playing on all of Clifton's Arhoolie recordings). Buck has recorded several solo Albums including the classic, 'The Buck Starts Here', helmed by Alan Toussaint. His classic cuts, 'Cat Scream', and 'Monkey in a Sack', recorded back in 1967 are considered by many to be the first funk tunes ever recorded.

Pat Breaux has long been considered one of the greatest saxophonists forged from the South Louisiana Cajun honky-tonk scene. Pat has toured and performed with the likes of BeauSoleil, Red Beans & Rice and C.C. Adcock. He is the grandson of Cajun music pioneer Amade Breaux, who has been credited with writing Louisiana's unofficial state anthem "Jolie Blon". Pat plays saxophone and accordion for Lil' Band O' Gold.

Richard Comeaux is flat out the best pedal-steel player in Louisiana and is currently signed to Capital Records with his band River Road. Richard plays pedal steel for Lil' Band O' Gold. 'Comeaux's pedal-steel playing, rarely heard in Louisiana acts these days outside of country bands, straddles those melodies like a graceful tightrope walker.' --Austin American Statesman

Big Low (Australia/Netherlands)

sat 7 - 8 pm | the organic 101 Club
sun 1.30 - 2.15pm | bowls Club
"Songs dusted in red dirt, their rhythms snapping and crackling like the dry gum leaves underfoot - this is Aussie roots music at its best...raw and gritty." Sydney Morning Herald 2009

Formed in the Netherlands in 2002 by Australian ex-pat Dan Tuffy, Big Low have released 3 albums on the Smoked Recordings label and performed at major festivals and gigs in Holland, Belgium, Germany, UK and Australia including Roots 06 Festival (Gent/BELGIUM), Paradiso (Amsterdam/
NETHERLANDS), Roots of Heaven Festival (Haarlem/NDL), Naked Song Festival (Eindhoven/NETHERLANDS).

Using bizarre and unconventional instrumentation such as the self-built 'banjo - bass' (a kick drum with a tree-stump hewn neck attached to it and two wire strings). The velofoon (a delicate sounding Arabic based string invention) and the bandoneon. Big Low manage to blend ragged country, alternative blues and dusty story telling folk into a sound you won't have heard before. The musicianship is superb and the live shows are stunning.

"Cinematically atmospheric with echoes of Tom Waits, this is great!
I just want to tell everybody. Truly excellent by any standards!" WWW.

Eddi Reader Trio (UK & IRE)
Feat: Boo Hewerdine & Alan Kelly
Folk / Celtic
Fri 11 pm - 12 am | mechanics institute
sat 12.45 - 1.45 pm |star of the sea Catholic Church
sun 12 - 1 pm | abC radio stage
Eddi Reader grew up in Glasgow and Irvine, Scotland and it was in those towns that she learned to use music as a vehicle for communicating with others through busking and performing at the local folk clubs. In the early 1980s, Eddi travelled around Europe with circus and performance artists before moving to London where she quickly became a sought after session vocalist. She famously harmonized with Annie Lennox touring with the Eurythmics, after her time with successful punk outfit Gang of Four. It was the short-lived but warmly remembered Fairground Attraction that really brought her into the limelight and to the attention of a much wider audience. The single 'Perfect' and parent album First of a Million Kisses both topped the British charts.

However, it was her subsequent albums which signalled her increasing ability to assimilate different musical styles and make them all very much her own. Her unerring instinct for fine material, whether self penned, collaborative or a carefully chosen cover version resulted in Mirmama (1992), Eddi Reader (1994), Candyfloss & Medicine (1996), Angels & Electricity (1998), Simple Soul (2001)

Through these years Eddi based herself in London, but in 2001 she decided to move home to Glasgow where she recorded the classic 'Songs Of Robert Burns' album released to international acclaim in 2003. Awarded the MBE in 2006 for services to singing, she took her Burns songs on tour all over the world and found connections to the bard everywhere from Kolkata, India to Sydney, Australia. In 2006 she released 'Peacetime' on Rough Trade Records featuring the finest traditional players in the United Kingdom and produced by Folk Musician of The Year, John McCusker. Constant touring with her band has created a magical organic chemistry between Eddi and her players and the results of this relationship can be found on her upcoming release 'Love Is The Way', Eddi Reader's seventh solo album and features long time friends and musicians Alan Kelly and Boo Herwerdine.

Chris Smither (USA)
Blues / roots
Sat 4.15 - 5.15 pm / mechanics institute
Sun 1.30 - 2.30 pm / abc radio stage

On this his fifth tour of Australia Chris will have a brand new recording 'Time Stands Still' to add to his 9 previous brilliant offerings. His songs are among the most intelligent, thoughtful, literary and uplifting of his genre, and his guitar playing is simply inspiring.

SYDNEY MORNING HERALD: "His ability to take the emotion at the heart of a song, make it transparent and pass it on to the listener is unmatched. Smither's rich, deep, emotion-charged voice and his exquisite guitar playing imbues these simple thoughts with a profundity forged out of genuine passion."

NEW YORK TIMES: "Through the decades, Mr. Smither has taken the blues in a direction entirely his own: stoic existential ruminations sung in a pained, weathered moan and set to quietly virtuoso guitar. There was always unpretentious philosophy in the deep blues, and Mr. Smither has followed it toward his own quiet epiphanies."

One of North America's leading blues and folk artists, Chris Smither is renowned for his alluring baritone vocals, superb song writing and outstanding musicianship. Smither is a proud carrier of a true American tradition, regularly performing masterful arrangements of some of the classic African American blues tunes. His own songs display a wry, intellectual, deep look at it all, 'on the outside looking in', as one of his best new songs describes. His live performance is further enhanced by the same dry, darkish sense of humour that is prevalent in so many of his songs.

James Blundell

sat 2 - 3 pm / abc radio stage

"If there's a contemporary singer/songwriter in this country today writing about and commenting on the nature of being an Australian with a quiet honesty, real integrity - and a cheeky humour when things get a bit too serious - it's James Blundell." - Michael Smith, Drum Media

James Blundell is acknowledged by many as the act single-handedly responsible for turning a younger demographic of Australians onto country music. He was the first young Australian country artist to create an impact on the mainstream pop charts and for many years was the highest selling country artist in the nation. James was also the first Australian country act to sign a major label recording deal in Nashville paving the way for the likes of Keith Urban, Kasey Chambers and others. In addition to his own success James has penned hits for Lee Kernaghan, Slim Dusty and Jimmy Little. James has been the recipient of 9 CMAA (Country Music Association of Australia) Golden Guitar Awards, double platinum, platinum and gold sales awards and is a 5 time ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) Award nominee.

"James Blundell is one of the greatest singer-songwriters this country has ever produced. He kicked down the doors and busted through with a new kind of country... it was a revolution." Lee Kernaghan

"As a young Country Music singer James Blundell was the guy I looked up to. He forged a path that I and many others have followed." Adam Brand

Whitley
Indie / pop
Fri  / Bay Stage 9.15 - 10.15 pm
Sat /  Bay Stage 11.45 - 12.35 pm
Following on from his critically-lauded debut 'The Submarine', Whitley returns with stellar follow up,'Go Forth, Find Mammoth'. Written and produced by Whitley, and engineered in a ramshackle studio on the Victorian Coast, the new album pushes the talented songwriter to his limits.

This well-realised follow-up picks up where his debut left off in it's warmth, beauty and intimacy, however it carries a much bolder aspiration. 'Go Forth, Find Mammoth' is an engulfing journey filled with flourishes and triumphs. Multiple harmony vocals, strings, pump organ, pedal steel, horns and
even a hammer and a bedroom door make up this album's truly rich and exciting sonic palette.

After 18 months of touring with the release of 'The Submarine', including 3 US tours and countless laps around Australia, Whitley is primed to deliver 'Go Forth, Find Mammoth' in a live arena to fans old and new.

With a new band and a new sound, Whitley hits the road this November to spread the good word. Whitley will take his five piece band on tour nationally taking to all states and a territory with special guests everywhere.

The 'Go Forth Find Mammoth Tour' will be not what you are expecting and everything you have been waiting for.

Snarski vs Snarski
Rock / indie / pop
Fri /  Mechanics Institute 9.30 - 10.30 pm
Sat / ABC Radio Stage 3.30 - 4.30 pm
It's on again! The showdown that pits brother to brother, face to face with their musical past, present and future!

The Snarski brothers take to the stage in Apollo Bay. Testing their memory banks, they will delve into the back catalogue of Chad's Tree, Jackson Code and Blackeyed Susans 'classics' - swapping and re-interpreting each other's songs and carrying on like brothers do.

In the early 80's on the outskirts of Perth, brothers Mark and Rob Snarski formed the darkly literate Chad's Tree. They had listened to the music of the Velvet Underground, Television, The Laughing Clowns, Tom Waits and Billie Holiday among others. As the decade drew to a close and they moved east, Chad's Tree disbanded. Mark formed the Jackson Code and younger brother Rob formed The Blackeyed Susans along with members of The Triffids amongst other luminaries.

These days Mark Snarski lives in Madrid and rarely performs in Australia.

Most recently the long-promised Blackeyed Susans retrospective box set was released to much acclaim. Rarely in the same country, let alone on the same stage, make sure you don't miss brothers Mark and Rob Snarski going head to head at the 2010 Apollo Bay Music Festival.

Wagons
Indie / Rock
Fri / ABC Radio Stage 10.30 - 11.30 pm
The Wagons live show is a performance like no other, treading a line between a Vegas 70s showroom extravaganza and a bunch of undertakers letting loose at a rock festival, headlined by Canned Heat. Wagons are a band of characters unmatched in contemporary Australian music. They shine as a collective and Henry Wagons songs are deceptively simple yet constructed according to sturdy designs and made of real flesh and blood and spirit.

"Henry Wagons is one of Australia's great live performers. He's a showman, a storyteller and an unlikely sex symbol. With that headband, he looks like a crazy '70s tennis player, but I think he's more like the Australian version of Warren Zevon. He has a wonderfully wicked, dark sense of humour, but he's also capable of delivering truly beautiful songs. His band is not bad either." Jeff Jenkins music journalist for The Age

The band draws up an uncommon range of influences given the current musical climate, including Vegas era Elvis, Roy Orbison, Adam Green, Johnny Cash, Clockwork Orange synthesisers, 70s trumpets, The Sunbury Music Festival and Cormac MacCarthy.

Having spent the last few years supporting and touring with the likes of The Violent Femmes, Calexico, Bill Callahan, Will Oldham, Okkervil River, John Hiatt and Justin Townes Earle it is safe to say that a Wagons show is like none you'll see in this or any surrounding county!

Josh White Jr (USA)
Folk / blues / inspirational
Sat/ Mechanics Institute (with Phil Langdon) 11.45 am - 12.45 pm
Sat / Star of The Sea Catholic Church Gospel w/shop 4.30 - 5.30 pm
Sat / Earth Hour Star of The Sea Catholic Church 8.30 - 9.30 pm
Sun / ABC Radio Stage Gospel Sessions 10 - 11.30 am
Josh is celebrating his 65th Anniversary in show business this year (2009), has recorded many albums, starred in four TV concert specials, is a TONY Award winning actor, has performed on the world's greatest concert stages, and is a highly respected humanitarian, educator, teacher and inspirational spirit. He also carries on one of the greatest legacies of 20th Century African-American history, as his father Josh White, was the first artist to spread American blues, folk and spirituals to the world's masses, the first artist to break down the doors of racial segregation in performance spaces, a pioneering social activist and the closest African-American friend and confident to President and Eleanor Roosevelt (Josh, Jr's Godmother). In 1944, as a child star, he began touring, recording and appearing on radio and Broadway with his father and continued under that tutelage for the next seventeen years before branching out on his own career.

Josh is a charismatic and highly personable, humorous and inspirational performing artist, who is equally adept in performing the blues (specializing in his father's classics), traditional folk, contemporary folk, international (English language) folk, spiritual and inspirational repertoire, in addition to a vast interactive children's repertoire. He also gives lectures on his father's unique and extraordinary life and career (interspersed with song examples), and gives Master Guitar Classes on his father's pioneering blues guitar styles. In the late 1920s, while recording for Paramount Records in Chicago, and later for ARC Records in New York in the early to mid 1930s, Josh White was the first blues and spiritual guitarist to combine the styles of Piedmont, Delta, New Orleans jazz and Chicago urban blues styles. In the 1940s, Josh White expanded his repertoire to folk, international, cabaret, pop, and modern jazz and was the new innovator of these styles in the American mass media.

It is with great pleasure that the Apollo Bay Music Festival presents Josh White Jr.

The Wilson Pickers
Bluegrass with an Australian twist
Fri /  ABC Radio Stage Opening concert
with James Blundell 6.45 - 7.45 pm
Sat / Bay Stage 3.45 - 4.30 pm
Recently and most deservedly nominated for an ARIA,  The Wilson Pickers are an all-star interstate musical collaboration, featuring Queenslanders Danny Widdicombe, Ben Salter, Andrew Morris, and Victorians
Sime Nugent and John Bedggood. All great singer songwriters in their own right, collectively they embrace the spiritual feeling one gets when singing in harmony. The band creates an earthy energy by using purely organic stringed and reeded instruments. After gathering an initial repertoire of cover songs from artists such as Townes Van Zandt, Flatt and Scruggs, Steve Earle, Dolly Parton, Paul Kelly and Bob Dylan, The Wilson Pickers have bravely undertaken the task of writing their own material with much success.

The Australian-born lads dare not take on bluegrass traditionalists of old but instead are aiming to craft their own unique take on the bluegrass configuration of instruments and ideas.

Wolfgramm Sisters
indie / pop/ groove
Sat / Bowls Club 3.45 - 4.45 pm
Sat / ABC Radio Stage - Baystock - 5 - 6.45 pm
Sun / Bay Stage 12.45 - 1.45 pm
It's been years of hard work but lately it seems The Wolfgramm Sisters are everywhere, gracing the stages of many our favourite artists: from Sharon Jones to Dan Sultan, from touring with JET to turning up the heat with Jo Camileri and Ross Wilson at their recent retrospectives and let's not forget Melbourne's two fave spectaculars: Rockwiz and Countdown. And if you haven't seen them live, well, no doubt you've heard their beautiful voices on Little Birdy's latest piece of brilliance.

And now, the girls are letting the rest of us in on every musicians secret , releasing their self-titled debut album of stomping early seventies and sixties classics ,many of the very same songs that they grew up singing together. Songs that will have you fossicking through your wardrobe for your flares and giving out daisy halos to complete strangers. Songs you know and some songs you don't, including two Al Green infused little beauties of their own! Released December 18th and available in all good record stores.

If you caught their opening performance at The E.G awards and their kick-out-the-jams version of Gimme Shelter alongside the wonderful Dan Sultan you'll know what you're in for. An unmissable night of explosive vocal performance supported by many of Melbourne's fave musos including a killer horn section to boot!

You can see them at The Apollo Bay Festival doing a stripped back version of their set on Saturday arvo and then check it out on Sunday arvo when the band will be ramping it up.

Even
rock / pop
SAT / BAY STAGE 10.15 - 11.30 PM
Australia's most loved power-pop threesome EVEN have just turned sweet 16th  Even's Ash Naylor reflects, "After leaving my post as a fruit and veg department manager in 1994 to pursue the dream of rock infamy, I could not have imagined the peaks Even would have climb in the 16 years to follow.
A lack of industry awards and platinum albums sales notwithstanding, we have carved out a chunk for ourselves in the twisting tree trunk of Australian rock. We have travelled Australia and overseas on numerous occasions, selling ice to the Eskimoes, rice to the Chinese and telling many of the world's
Grandmother's how to suck eggs!! We have played alongside, and with many musicians who are dear to our hearts. At times we may have been been encouraged to wear ill-fitting suits to pander to major label expectations, maybe even agreed to shoot video clips that could have fed a family for two years, but we never compromised our music. I stand by each and every one of our songs and the spirit in which they were written, recorded and continue to be performed. We've been lucky.

Lee Rosser
Roots
Sat / ABC Blues & Roots in the round 10 -11 am
Sat / Sessions Bar 1.30 - 2 pm
Sat /  Sessions Bar 3 - 3.30 pm
Sat / Apollo Bay Hotel 7.30 - 8.30 pm
After a three year hiatus from touring, former 'rambunctious' frontman Lee Rosser is being heralded by many as the new king of roots/rock. Together with Drummer Tim O Connor the pair have been gaining audiences far and wide with a killer live show.

His debut solo album was released quietly onto the scene in August 09 and has been receiving rave reviews. Lyrically based around Lees' somewhat alternative lifestyle the words are a search for love and meaning in a world dominated by conspicuous consumption.

With a unique muting style on an acoustic guitar (he is left-handed but plays right) Lee manages to make one instrument sound like the parts of the whole band.

Combine this with the best part of a three octave vocal range and a love of strange phrasing and you have a very personal take on the ?roots? genre that is best described as Hard Roots!

FourPlay String Quartet
rock / pop / post-rock / neo-classical / jazz/ klezmer / swing

Sat / Bowls Club 12.30 -1.30
Sat / Mechanics Institute 10.45 -11.45 pm

FourPlay perform covers by a diverse array of bands; from The Strokes and Radiohead to Charles Mingus & Robert Johnson and many, many more. They also write their own original compositions inspired by rock, pop, post-rock, neo-classical, jazz, klezmer, swing, folk-tronica, hip hop and more! No musical stone is left unturned.

Labjacd
Funk / hip hop / soul
Fri /  Bay Stage 10.45 - 11.45 pm
Sat / Bay Stage 12 - 1 am
Sun / Bay Stage 10.15 - 11 am
LABJACD (say "Lab-Jacked") is a monster 9 piece band that's been working Australia's dance floors and festivals since 2005. Known for their powerful sound and a guns blazin' live set they have won loyal fans and respect wherever they've performed. Not pure hip-hop, not a straight funk band, not exactly world music, LABJACD's sound grew organically from the diverse backgrounds and experiences of its founding members.

The three MC's who front the band are from a Chilean background, their families fleeing the nightmare of the Pinochet dictatorship during the 1970's and '80's. Parts of the show incorporate Andean music (including the use of traditional instruments) and the influence of latin styles such as salsa and cumbia can be felt throughout. The resulting sound is urban, rootsy and uncontrived; music that is genuinely of its time and place.

The Patron has put the band back together!!!

Aloi Head and the Victor Motors are back - older, greyer, balder, fatter, uglier, sexier.

The band who gave us "Ball...Yes", the song that has been described as the greatest Australian football song ever.
The band who gave us the classic mini album, "Poo".
The band who gave us the quintessential BBQ song, 'BBQin'".

Australian rock'n'roll in its purest form ever.

The Angels - too arty, Rose Tattoo - too dumb, X - too much eyeliner, AC/DC - too UK, Aloi Head and the Victor Motors - right on the money.

For your listening and 18th Festival partying pleasure don't miss Aloi Head and the Victor Motors.

Kerri Simpson sings the Blues like Kerri Simpson, not imitating but initiating, singing from the heart. Whatever genre of music Kerri places her vocal abilities in she mixes all she's absorbed in her life and musical experiences and develops her own unique sound which comes straight from her soul."

Dan Warner is one of Australia's most respected songwriters. In a recent article in The Age, the song 'Anthem', which Dan co-wrote with Sally Dastey, was named 'one of the 10 songs that made this country great'.

Dan's writing skills are the result of several years spent at the musical coalface. His '90s band, The Warner Brothers (that later became Overnight Jones), was considered a seminal band in the local alt-country scene. His duo Dan & Al also played several legendary residencies in Melbourne throughout the '90s, including 8 years at The Punters Club.

Between 2000 and 2002, after a period playing in Paul Hester's post-Crowded House outfit, The Largest Living Things, Dan lived in New York, where he teamed up with US guitarist, Kevin Garant.

Dan returned to Australia and recorded his debut solo album, 'A Likeness Of You', released here in '05. Relix magazine in NY described 'A Likeness Of You' as "a lucidly soulful study". In a four-star review of 'Night Parrots', the recently-released second album, Michael Dwyer from The Age remarked of Dan Warner's songwriting, "his craft is subtle, his empathy devastating".

Dan also presents Warner Corner each Sunday afternoon on Melbourne's much-loved community radio station, 3RRR FM.

Their performances are a concoction of multi-layered grooves, splashes of Middle Eastern vocals, lilting Moby-esque soundscapes, flamenco and slide guitar, trumpet, electronic world beats and live Latin Cuban Percussion. A fusion of world music and phat electronic beats.

Djan Djan
Feat: Mamadou Diabate,
Bobby Singh & Jeff Lang
World
Fri /  ABC Radio Stage 9.15 - 10 pm
Sat / Bay Stage 1 - 2 pm
Mamadou Diabate (kora, Mali), Bobby Singh (tabla, India) and Jeff Lang (guitar, Australia) are well known and well regarded for their individual output and careers. Djan Djan is a new collaboration which sees these musicians stretching their imagination and skills into sublime areas of new musicality. Although the players show their respects to their cultural backgrounds of Africa, India and Australia; the music of Djan Djan stands alone as a uniquely new sound. Djan Djan sees these virtuosic instrumentalists dispense intoxicating music - steeped in tradition, yet brimming with innovation.

When the three musicians met in 2008, no one could quite predict the musical alchemy that would occur as a result. Their performances are astonishingly beautiful and display the conversational and virtuosic style that all three are renowned for.

Mamadou Diabate was destined to play the kora, born and raised in the griot tradition of Mali, using music and oratory to preserve his people's consciousness of their past. From his Grammy-award nominated solo album, to his latest release Douga Mansa (King Vulture), Mamadou's technical virtuosity and innovative approach have kept him in high demand internationally.

Bobby Singh spent much of his childhood in Mumbai studying tabla. Recognised with a great talent, Bobby is the disciple of Aneesh Pradhan, one of the world's most sought after tabla players. Nurtured into a mature, internationally renowned tabla virtuoso, both in traditional Indian and cross-cultural genres, Bobby has played with many of the top musicians in Australia and the world.

Jeff Lang has earned worldwide acclaim as a guitarist, dynamic songwriter and startlingly unique live performer, defying description and genres. His intuitive and idiosyncratic instrumental virtuosity are supported by songs that expand the boundaries of traditional folk, country and blues, creating a new blend of music which is undeniably and deeply steeped in tradition, yet with its vision set on future horizons. As an instrumental storyteller, Lang gives the guitar a voice and then makes it sing.

Neilsen Gough Quartet
Jazz
Sat / ABC Radio Stage Baystock  5 - 6.45 pm
Sat / The Mechanics Institute 9.15 - 10.15 pm
Sun / The Mechanics Institute 2 - 3 pm
No one else in the world can both sing and play the trumpet as well as Neilsen, according to James Morrison. With a truly unique voice, the fluidity and warmth of which are reflected in his highly evocative trumpet playing, Neilsen launches his brand new album 'A Beautiful Dream' a collection of original compositions that evoke a similar beauty and melancholy to the music of both Chet Baker and Antonio Carlos Jobim. With subtle bossa nova beats and romantic and lyrical melodies, plus the infusion of some great jazz standards, it's music that's both modern and refreshing - at the same time recreating all the style and excitement of a classic era of the hip and the cool.

Joining him on stage will be long time artistic collaborators and personal friends,  Greg Coffin on piano, Brendan Clarke on bass and Nic Cecire on drums along with very special guest and jazz legend Dale Barlow.

"Neilsen is a truly gifted musician whose time has surely come. His natural lyricism as a singer and masterful jazz improvisation on trumpet are entwined as one. His impeccable taste and choice of material make his music a pleasure to listen to anywhere, anytime!"   Dale Barlow

The Whitetop Mountaineers (USA)
Appalachian bluegrass
Fri /  Apollo Bay Surf Club 7.30 - 8.15 pm
Sat / Apollo Bay Surf Club 9 - 10.30 am workshop
Sat / Organic 101 Club 5.15 - 6.30 pm
Sun / Organic 101 Club 11.45 - 12.30 pm
The Whitetop Mountaineers are a young duo, Martha Spencer and Jackson Cunningham. They both live in Whitetop, VA, the highest mountains in Virginia. Their shows feature old time country duet singing, up-tempo old time fiddle, clawhammer banjo, bluegrass mandolin and guitar instrumentals as well as high energy Appalachian dancing.

"From the first note of their show, I was left in no doubt that Martha Spencer and Jackson Cunningham are the real McCoy when it comes to 'Old Timey' music. I imagined their high lonesome mountain voices and tasteful guitar, claw-hammer banjo, fiddle and mandolin accompaniment could have come straight out of Appalachia 80 or 90 years ago."

The Bastard Children
Junkyard folk / old-world gypsy / ragged celtic / dirty blues
Fri / Great Ocean Hotel 10.45 - 11.30 pm
Sat / ABC Radio Stage - Baystock concert 5 - 6.45 pm
Sat / abc radio stage 9.15 - 10 pm
Sat / Bowls Club 10 - 11 pm
Sun / Apollo Bay Hotel 1.30 - 2.15 pm

A Bastard Children show feels like a crowded party in a big old house. The songs are like different rooms down a dark hallway with creaking floors and heaving walls. It's the wheeze of the accordion, the spilled blood of a dirty
harmonica, the tearing of guitars, the scrape of the mandolins, banjos, keys, horns, whistlers and more. The Bastard Children is the sound of Melbourne by night - the real Melbourne - it's visceral, its unpretentious, and it's bloody fun. The twisted offspring of junkyard folk, old-world gypsy, ragged celtic & dirty blues. A multi-instrumental globe- hopping jaunt through the Australian musical landscape. The lads present a fast paced live show that leaps through various styles and instruments with all the urgency of a thirsty drunkard. Sordid, scandalous and superbly attired, The Bastard Children are, like it or not, bastards of their own diverse cultural heritage. A roaringly successful season of over 60 shows in four weeks at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2008 was where the band found inspiration for their debut album 'High Tide & High Times' (2009).

The Bastards returned to their home town of Melbourne to record the album in an old 1970's ex brothel - think Alice in Wonderland gone very wrong. The result was an album of diverse material that has enjoyed critical acclaim and garnered airplay nationally. 'High Tide & High Time', as you would expect, varies hugely in sound and style, blending old world charm through a range of stories and drinking songs that span both genre and influence.

With a fast paced live show already drawing a great response from audiences at shows and festivals across the globe. Make sure you catch this extraordinary band on the way up.

"This idiosyncratic quintet put on a show that not only provides excellent music at the forefront of new folk songwriting, but is absolutely great fun." Miranda Heggie, The List Magazine Edinburgh

The Ronson Hangup
Rock / indie
Sat /  Bay Stage 5 - 5.45 pm
Sun /  The Great Ocean Hotel 4 - 4.45 pm
The Ronson Hangup were formed when brothers Steve and Mal Pinkerton from The Anyones teamed up with Ash Naylor (Even), Luke Thomas (The Pictures) and Dave Mudie (Canon) out of a shared admiration for Mick Ronson the legendary guitarist from David Bowies band The Spiders From Mars.

Named as "one of the top 10 Melbourne bands to look out for" by The Age EG they were described thus: "a gang of Melbourne riff-rock recidivists with resumes as long, tangled and dazzling as that guitar solo on Moonage Daydream. Their starry-eyed debut album is all fireworks and soaring transistor radio hooks with landslides of vocal harmony."

The Age EG's Jo Roberts wrote about the debut album recently: "as accomplished and as clever pop music as you'd suspect from such a pedigree. The musical lineage of the Ronson Hangup goes straight back to the ilk of Badfinger, the Kinks, Beatles, Raspberries, even ELO. It's riff-rich, harmony-laden heaven."

Since the album's release, the band has been drifting from gig to gig, with tours across Australia and more recently to England, for shows throughout London and Cambridge. The experience allowed lead singer/guitarist Justin Bernasconi to get back to his roots, having moved to Australia from England five years ago. The group is also fronted by the singing drummer Cat Canteri, and together with Ross Richard on the lap-steel/lead guitar; they form a crafty blend on country, rock and pop.

Sat / Mechanics Institute 2.45 - 3.45 pm
Sat /  Bowls Club 8.15 - 9.30 pm
Sun / Star of The Sea Catholic Church 12.45 - 1.45
Admiration and respect for his work amongst his peers is best summed up by David Francey who recently stated that, "James Keelaghan is a voice in contemporary Canadian songwriting that has helped us define who we are as a people. He writes with great humanity and honesty, with an eye to the past and a vision of the future. He has chronicled his times with powerful and abiding songs, with heart and eyes wide open."

For Keelaghan staying at the top of his game comes down to a very clear rule, never stop accumulating! Terry Wickham, the producer of the much lauded Edmonton Folk Music Festival, is one of many longtime admirers of Keelaghan's music, and he sums up the artists appeal by saying, "James has become the complete artist. A brilliant tunesmith who has become one of the most engaging performers of our time. You always know the journey with James is going to be great, you just never know what all the destinations are. That is why the curve on his career continues to rise."

It was Dave Marsh, the award-winning American music critic and historian who not so long ago stated that James Keelaghan is "Canada's finest songwriter," and those few but powerful words of praise say it all about an artist who continues to set the bar at a lofty height.

Rock
Fri / The  Great Ocean Hotel 12 - 1 am
Sat / Apollo Bay Hotel 10.30 - 11.30 pm
Sun /  Great Ocean Hotel 12.15 - 1.15 pm
The Large Number Twelves rarely gig outside of St Kilda, but they play every gig like it's a 50,000 capacity crowd at Madison Square Garden. Named after their favourite pizza, the band write classic country rock songs full of lovely melodies, catchy choruses and Charlie Owen's stunning guitar work. The writing of brothers Chris and Wes Harrington can be so good it's easy to assume that songs such as 'All the Boys', 'Give a Little Love' and 'When I Was a Boy' are Tom Petty or Bob Dylan covers. But their subjects are much closer to home: the junkies, dealers and war veterans walking around Melbourne's streets and the gentrification of their beloved St Kilda. The 12's have been doing this for so long that it's obvious they don't have to think too hard about it... It just comes off the bat like a sweetly hit 6 over the northern stand at the "G".

With influences ranging from hip hop and 70s funk to New Orleans traditions to rock, pop and jazz, The Megahorns offer something for everyone.

From humble beginnings busking in Melbourne's CBD, the band grew into a crowd favourite at last year's festival, tearing up the street stage with a devastatingly funky Saturday night set. A band where guitar solos are banned!

A band that sounds something like the mutant surf sons of The Cure crossed with a new wave sonic version of The Beachboys.

Ghost Mutt never lived at home like other guys... They were raised by wolves in a cave above Sunnymead Beach. Venturing out steadily further and further, until sure of their sound base, they are primed to take on Apollo Bay!

Anthony Morgan
Comedy

Anthony Morgan is one of the most loved, feared and brilliant comedians to stand behind a microphone. The Festival is delighted that we have been able to lure him back to Victoria to perform exclusively for the 18th Apollo Bay Music Festival.
In Anthony's own words "I hardly perform anywhere anymore by choice. Either I choose not to demean myself with lesser events, or the organisers choose not to ask me.

"The way the world seems to be going, I haven't had any great desire to perform anywhere lately. I am however very keen on the idea of this festival. Fun - the missing ingredient in modern entertainment."

Anthony will be treated to the home spun hospitality of Apollo Bay and we will be treated to his own brand of award winning stand - up, conversational genius!

Baystock! An all star line up!
Artists pay homage to the festival
that started them all!
Artists sing the songs of Woodstock '69
In a word - massive
Sat / abc radio stage 5 - 6.45 pm
In keeping with the tradition set in 2008 The Apollo Bay Music Festival is presenting a themed concert with a difference. The first ever Woodstock took place in 1969, and to pay homage to the festival that started it all we sent the set lists from 1969 to our fine acts for 2010, and we are nothing short of thrilled with what has transpired.

The Baystock concert will be presented on Saturday afternoon, and indeed is shaping up to be a festival in itself with some excellent and at times perhaps outlandish interpretations of songs from Woodstock 41 years ago.

To whet your appetite for what is definitely going to be a concert with a difference here are the fine artists who have chosen to perform at Baystock 2010: James Blundell will perform The Band's 'The Weight', Coby Grant will give us a new spin on the Creedence classic 'Bad Moon Rising', The Bastard Children will rip apart and bring back together a magnificent rendition of Joe Cocker's 'With a little help from my friends', Neilson Gough Quartet will delight with 'Blackbird', and Patron JVG with his band Aloi Head & The Victor Motors will bring the house down with The Who's 'Summertime Blues'.

But wait there is more! Paul Greene performs 'Hey Joe', Suzette Herft channels Joan Baez with 'Joe Hill', Sally Dastey sings 'Walkin Down the Line' like no other, Caitlin Harnett will enchant with 'Swing Low Sweet Chariot', Rhys Crimmin will offer up 'Proud Mary', Dan Warner performs 'Long Black Veil', The Original Snakeskins sing 'Goin' Up The Country' like no other, Suitcase Royale reinvent the Arlo Guthrie classic 'Coming into Los Angeles', Nick Lovell will mesmerise us with 'I Shall Be Released', Bert's Boogie will rock with 'Jailhouse Rock', Celtic Storm will move us to tears with 'Amazing Grace' and The Band Who Knew Too Much and The Woldgramm Sisters are still deciding!

Tenzin Choegyal and Monks of Tibet
Tantric | chanting | throat singing
Sat / Bay Stage 9 am - 10 am
Sat / Senior citizens Hall 1 - 2.30 Meditation workshop
Sat /Organic 101 Club 5.30 - 6.30 pm
Sun / Bay Stage 8.45 am - 9.45 am

The monks of Tashi Lhunpo are masters of Tibetan Buddhist tantric ritual and their lives are dedicated to practicing tantric ideals. Groups of monks from Tashi Lhunpo regularly conduct their Compassionate Mandala Tour of Australia with well-known Tibetan musician Tenzin Choegyal. They offer a cultural program of ancient Tibetan creative arts including Sand Mandala creation, Healing mantra, Tibetan Singing, Cultural Workshops, Guided Meditations and the Compassionate Mandala - Sacred Dance Sacred Music Concert.

The music of Tenzin choegyal and Monks of Tibet includes the famed multi-phonic chanting of Tashi Lhunpo monks and the extraordinary voice and sounds of Tenzin Choegyal.

The Tashi Lhunpo monks perform their unique version of simultaneous intoning of three notes in harmonyand play traditional Tibetan instruments such as the 10-foot long dung-chen horn, drums, bells, cymbals and gyaling trumpet.
The program also includes a performance of religious dance known as Cham. Traditionally performed in the monasteries these dances are spectacles of mesmerizing colour, motion and sound that serve as public performances as well as divine offerings.

Tenzin Choegyal performs music from all layers of traditional Tibetan society. While his primary instrument is his voice, Tenzin is a master of Tibetan musical instruments such as the Dranyen (six-stringed long-necked lute), the Lingbu (transverse bamboo flute) and other ritual objects.

The Compassionate Mandala Tour also raises funds to support the exiled Tashi Lhunpo Monastery and the Tibetan Children?s Village in Dharamsala. This is a unique opportunity to not only experience the gift of beautiful music and world culture but to provide humanitarian assistance.

Tenzin Choegyal's voice and musical talents are unique and mesmerizing. Tenzin draws on his traditional Tibetan roots to create original compositions which express his devotion to his cultural heritage. Recently at a US concert, a listener described hearing Tenzin Choegyal sing live as 'heaven on earth'. His voice and music however are only part of his story. Tenzin was born in Tibet, escaped to Nepal and was raised in exile in Dharamsala, India. As a child, Tenzin would listen to his mother singing in the nomadic style of Tibet and he attributes much of his passion for that genre to her early influence.

Tashi Lhunpo Monastery was founded in Tibet by His Holiness the 1st Dalai Lama Gyalwa Gendun Drup in 1447. It was one of the four great monasteries of Central Tibet overseen by the Dalai Lamas and Panchen Lamas and has produced thousands of renowned scholars in Mahayana Buddhist Philosophy.

The monks follow an intensive program of study including sutra, tantra and debate, and are instructed in the creation of sand mandalas and butter sculpture, ritual performance, music, chanting, dance and basic literacy in Tibetan and English. Each monk must also complete a two to three month meditation retreat for each of the principal deities and protectors in order to qualify to perform their rituals. This cycle of retreats can take up to six years to complete.

The Tashi Lhunpo Monks are masters of Tibetan Buddhist tantric ritual and their lives are dedicated to practicing tantric ideals.

Special Event 'The Last Hope'
featuring live music with
The Windy Hills
A series of six original short films compiled by Andrew Kidman
Sat / Mechanics Institute 6 - 7 pm
Sun / mechanics institute 3.30 - 4.30 pm
Andrew Kidman chose six of his favourite surfing filmmakers to create short films that were inspired by the sea. The filmmakers include Albert Falzon (Morning Of The Earth), Jon Frank (Litmus), Monty Webber, Michelle Lockwood (Kids) and American underground surf filmmakers Patrick Trefz (Thread) and Richard Kenvin (Hydrodynamica). Kidman also provides four special cuts of his own.

The filmmakers created their short films to music selected by Aaron Curnow from some of the greatest independent contemporary artists; Smog, Sufjan Stevens, Mogwai, My Morning Jacket, Dirty Three, Holly Throsby, Vetiver, Bonnie Prince Billy , The Brown Birds From Windy Hill and Machine Translations.

For Apollo Bay Music Festival a live soundtrack will be performed by The Brown Birds From Windy Hill. Add to the live performance the unique style of each filmmaker, their stories are brought to life with these wonderful songs, and the result is at times emotional, sometimes harrowing, often funny and heartfelt, but always incredibly thoughtful. The viewer is left stunned by the vastness of the ocean and the depth of emotion in the music.

Says Kidman: "One of the most enjoyable aspects of being a filmmaker is the process of bringing scenes, emotions and stories to life with music. It's kind of a filmmakers dream to have access to great music and the freedom to make whatever you want without the constraints of trying to make a full length feature or editors wreaking havoc with your work. This is what I was thinking about when Aaron Curnow and I first had a conversation about this project. I thought something special could come from just letting the filmmakers make what ever they wanted. I hope the project has kept a pure line and that these original thoughts transcend in the viewing".

Special Event
The Ballad of Backbone Joe
Theatre
fri / Mechanics Institute 8 - 9 pm
Sat / mechanics institute 10 - 11 am
The Ballad of Backbone Joe has toured internationally to critical acclaim and in 2008 won the Golden Gibbo Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. It is with great pleasure that the Apollo Bay Music Festival presents ... The Ballad of Backbone Joe.

A dollar fight gone wrong, a classy Sheila with a mind for revenge and a private detective hot on her heels. The Ballad of Backbone Joe is an austere tale of the apparent murder of Messy Dimes Dan, the owner of the town's abattoir and boxing emporium. This jigsaw-puzzle narrative is told through visual trickery, film, bone-crunching physical theatre and filmic lighting.
Set in the roaring carnival days of pre-war Australia, this tin pan alley opera features the unique Rag 'n' Bone music and junkyard aesthetic of Melbourne-based trio the Suitcase Royale. Contra bass, banjo, guitar, accordion, drums and the ghostly voice of a red-dressed vixen carry this broken-down truck of a musical down the windy road of revenge.

The Ballad of Backbone Joe is a nail-biting junkyard tale which will hold you in the cradle of suspense until the lights go down.

"Visionary, emancipated and transformational The Suitcase Royale create works of theatre achingly undiluted, joining the soul of madcap anarchy found in the best of the Marx Brothers to the self-sufficient purity found in traveling tent shows." Pittsburgh City Paper

Starring....The Suitcase Royale Band

Then you have noticed that one of our friendly pharmacists has the well earned title of 'Mr Music' in Apollo Bay. Yes it's Phil Langdon!

To celebrate the coming of age, the ABMF introduced The Inaugural Community Artist of The Year Award. This was bestowed upon  Phil at a special reception in Apollo Bay on October 16 at the Mechanics Institute by our Patron Jon von Goes in recognition of  so many years of service, to not only the festival, but music in the Bay. Phil was in Buffs adding his input right from the start and has not slowed up since!

Thank You Phil from us all and we look forward to celebrating your presence and input all the more this festival!

Josh White Jr
Kids under Canvas
sun / 1 pm

"The concerts I perform for children are enriched with spontaneity and are a positive experience. The songs speak of peace, hope, friendship, love, and there are some fun tunes also. What is so wonderful, is that the children participate not only with voice, but with directed movement as well. Because I am an eclectic performer, the songs I do are reflective of that. . . as we sing-a-long together, while making our imaginary voyage---learning the history of the automobile, going to the library, singing about unicorns, of imaginary people's faces within cloud formations, and of a hungry little man who can afford only 'One Meatball,' a depression era song I first sang on stage
when I was four years old. It's an extraordinary experience to enter a roomful of children who may seem shy at the first moment, and to then watch them evolve as they laugh, sing, `act-out and create.' Before we know it, our time together is over we have formed a friendship, we have had fun, and together we have learned. . .
 "  Josh White Jr

JOSH WHITE, JR. has given more than 500 children's concerts in the past fifteen years, while starring in his own children's PBS - TV special, and appearing many times on Nickelodeon TV's highly rated national children's TV series 'Eureka's Castle'.

REVIEWING A JOSH WHITE, JR. CHILDREN'S CONCERT

- by an educator. . .

'Edu-tainment,' is the best way to describe the children's concerts presented by Josh White, Jr. A musician who's performed since he was four years old,
Mr. White provides an extraordinary interactive experience for young people. Through directed movement and sing-a-longs, students become immersed in
the concert. The children enjoy the lively music and inevitably learn a little more about the values steeped in White's lyrics. While there are educational
songs about the library and the history of the automobile, there are also reflections of friendship, poverty and peace. A Josh White, Jr. concert promises an artful mix of music and fun while creating a positive learning experience that makes heads turn, hands clap, and hearts open to a whole, new world."
