The Aria Award Winning Choir Of Hard Knocks - www.choirofhardknocks.com.au

The Choir of Hard Knocks is a group of disadvantaged and homeless people who have come together to create an unlikely musical phenomenon.

The Choir of Hard Knocks shares a love of singing and music that has become the focal point in many of their lives.This group of around 50 homeless and disadvantaged men and women, have come together under the leadership of Founding Music Director Jonathon Welch

The Apollo Bay Community Choir comprises members of our wonderful Apollo Bay Community. This year marks reinvigoration of the choir, having worked with Stella Savy and Sally Dastey.

The current lineup has remained unchanged for the last 6 years and 4 albums, and consists Tim Freedman on piano and vocals, Jak Housden on guitar, Warwick Hornby on bass guitar and Terepai Richmond on drums.
	The Stems- www.thestems.com.au/ Formed in1983 by Dom Mariani and Richard Lane who were serious students of cool underground 60’s garage punk, R&B and pop music. As they evolved they also embraced an updated power pop sound. But foremost it was their ability to write great songs and electric live shows that made them stand out from the rest. 20 years after the release of their one and only classic 1987’s “At First Sight- Violets are Blue” the Stems release their new album "Heads Up" and are reunited for Apollo Bay & to take on the 21st century.

	Ben Birchall & the Corrections - www.benbirchall.com.au Ben Birchall and the Corrections are a 5 piece rock band, veering between big choruses, terrace chants and sweet pop and dirty blues. Occasionally recalling Birchall’s heroes Elvis Costello, Springsteen and John Lennon, the Corrections are a seasoned band.
	New Estate- www.myspace.com/newestate New Estate are a 4 piece indie pop noise outfit from Melbourne, who have been forging their unique sound for 5 years, along the way drawing comparisons to the likes of Dinosaur Jnr, My Bloody Valentine & the Clean. 	Horse Competition Japanese Jungle Binary Pop and Digital Slop Rock Hop's love baby is...... Horse Competition. Their music is the offspring of their subconscious minds and can be looked at as impressions of their dreams and the real world - delivering to their audience an aura of colourful delight in many different forms.
	Almacknjack - Almacknjack are three young dudes from Anglesea who in a a short time, have played a number of gigs in the Surf Coast area, including the Queenscliff Music Festival, where they went home with a win in the Rock Category of the "Foot in the Door" competition. Here’s what one judge said, “Ready to record, ready to sell, ready to take over the nation….I could watch you dudes jam all night…highly original”. Almacknjack are a little bit crazy on stage - swapping instruments and jumping around yet making sure the psychedelic rock sound is sweet. Almacknjack are teenagers, Stu Mackenzie, Jack Robins and Almo Troop.
	Nick Barker - www.myspace.com/nickbarkermusic Nick Barker & his band cross from power rock to adult contemporary. They never fail to impress, and Barker’s enigmatic charm, vocal and song writing talent is forever burgeoning.
	Skrypture Heavy rock at it’s best. Influenced by Metallica, System Of A Down, Black Sabbath and Velvet Revolver, this band has been together for nearly 2 years. A 3 piece who play heavy rock the way it should be. Loud and hard. A young band with big hearts and a big future.
	M2W3 A strange name M2W3 play a mixture of 70s & 80s rock, from Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin to the one hit wonders, they formed from 3 different bands for a fund raising event, to become one of the coast’s biggest drawcards. Full on rock from the first song til last – together for 3 year’s they’ blow you away.

It’s a refreshing approach that gives us, the audience, the chance to be really moved. 	The Andrea Kellar Quartet - www.andreakellerpiano.com The ensemble has performed at major Australian jazz festivals including the Wangaratta Jazz Festival, Summer Jazz Festival Canberra, Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival, Melbourne Jazz Co operative, SIMA (Sydney) and the Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival. In 2007 the Andrea Keller Quartet performed at the Moers Festival (Germany) and the Copenhagen Jazzhouse (Denmark).
	The Colin Hopkins Trio – www.colinhopkins.com.au In 2007 colin won the Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival Commission with a new composition Yasaka Shomyo. He is a featured artist on the 2007 ABX release of Jazztrack’s 30th Anniversary celebrating excellence in Australian Jazz.

	Sophisticated Swing Sophisticated Swing is a groovy 26 piece soul band in the James Brown Style, combining funk dancers, powerful brass & rhythms sections to produce an exceptionally entertaining performance. From Colac to the Gold Coast and Parliament House, Sophisticated Swing are seasoned performers and we celebrate that they are a part of our region. 	Sara Storer - www.sarastorer.com.au Golden Guitar winner Sara Storer will be opening the main stage for 2008 Apollo Bay Music festival – a magnificent performer who has won more Golden Guitars than you can poke a stick at. Apollo Bay is delighted that Sara is apart of our festival, and we are also thrilled to feature a concert with Sara and Neil Murray.
	The Huckleberry Swedes with Bill Chambers - www.huckleberryswedes.com/ The Huckleberry Swedes sound is pretty unique, but if you want to put a label on it, try. The missing link between Ryan Adams and Jeff Tweedy (Wilco). The warm, amber glow, the crack in the door that invites you in, are songs such as; ‘Cast a line’ – a classic loss of innocence tale, ’Black gold’- a yearning protest song that would make Woody Guthrie proud, and the underdog anthem ‘Hair Trigger’. These songs work because they are honest; something you can share, like wholesome stew, like good advice. Huckleberry Swedes, are a four piece featuring BJ Barker on drums, Sam Willoughby on bass/vox, Mark Elberg on lead guitar/vox and Troy Loakes on vox/ acoustic guitar.
	The Millionaires For the lost souls of the twenty first century with false memories of Waylon Jennings in his thirsty days looking out over the Nashville Skyline when Sunday morning was comin' down... this one's for you. Featuring Karma County’s Brendan Gallagher & Michael Galeazzi, Jim Elliott (Cruel Sea) & David McCormack (The Polaroids) launching their debut album Sentimental Horses.
	Halfway - www.halfway.com.au Halfway grew out of the indie band scene in Brisbane after the provincial side of the group hit the Brisbane big smoke from the cattle capital of Rockhampton. They managed to get under the skin of music lovers with their surprisingly confident and accomplished debut disc, Farewell to the Fainthearted, stamping them as a musical adventure not to be missed. They were soon recognised as one of the best live acts in Brisbane, crowding the stage at favourite venues like the Troubadour with their medicine show feel and their Basement Tapes sound.

	Dog Trumpet, featuring Reg Mombassa, Pete Doherty and Bernie Hayes - www.dogtrumpet.com.au Dog Trumpet are in a word brilliant – their story began at the dawn of the 1990s as a side project for brothers Reg Mombassa and Peter O’Doherty from their main band Mental As Anything. For 13 years they had been touring and contributing such songs as ‘Berserk Warriors’, ‘Egypt’, ‘Brain Brain’, just to mention a few. Dog Trumpet have great songs and are so much fun. They take the seemingly ordinary and craft it into poignant storytelling that hits home and makes you smile. Dog Trumpet are a must see for the 2008 Festival.
	Martin Stephenson (UK) www.daintees.com/ Martin Stephenson is a supremely gifted singer, songwriter, musician and performer, whose career in music stretches back more than twenty years. Born in County Durham, in the North-East of England, Martin's free spirit has incorporated a love for an eclectic range of musical styles, he is an astonishing performer. When he's not singing in Tee-Pees with the highland tree People or playing the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall with Janis Ian, you could see him standing on the corner in Inverness town with a banj/tar playing ragtime. Maybe travelling through Spain solo or with his swing band 'The Toe-Rags', cutting original 'Sun-style' tunes selling Vicar St out in Dublin - bang on Merle Travis & Scott Joplin!
	Skipping Girl Vinegar - www.skippinggirlvinegar.com/ Skipping Girl Vinegar’s rambling, debut single ‘One Chance’ was released in September 2007 to a sellout crowd at Melbourne's Toff in Town. The track was added to high rotation on Triple J in September 07. One chance has been a favourite for punters and presenters alike and has also received rotation on RRR, PBS, FBI, 4zzz and regional ABC radio across the country. The accompanying animated clip for ‘One Chance’ received critical acclaim and Rage featured it as their first ever ‘indie clip of the week’, JTV also featured the clip as their "new" clip for the week in early October, before it then charted in their Top 20.
	Karl Broadie - www.karlbroadie.com Karl’s ability to see the shades of grey in life, the small moments and the spaces in between, give his songs a freshness and appeal that are both rare and magical. “It’s the tiny things that often go unspoken that remain so poignant and so real in all of our memories. Sometimes they’re things we’ve just thought — possibilities that may not even have happened,” Karl said. He has also enlisted two of the most sublime voices in Australian music to perform duets on this album. Melanie Horsnell joins him on “Tears”, while rising star Dianna Corcoran does a superb job on “Count Your Blessings”.

Blues harp grooves with melodic soulful delivery and poignant visual lyrics. With Brad West on drums and percussion experience a true grass roots performance, inspiration from the Otways and the distance space beyond. The are a a great folky rootsy outfit featuring Glenn Ford on Guitar, Andrew Beaumont on Bass and Fabio Pertile on drums. This exciting new and talented outfit will be one to watch. They are uniquely Australia and accomplished musicians.
	Josh Rigg and band - www.myspace.com/joshuarigg New to the scene and local boy Josh Rigg plays a blend of acoustic blues and roots. With his combination of raw musical talent and song writing that belies his age this kid has been turning heads where ever he plays. Appearing with his newly formed band be sure to check out his set’s over the course of the weekend.
	Tess McKenna - www.tessmckenna.com/ High profile fans can often give a very good indication of a songwriter’s influence & reach, so it is worth noting that one of Australian music’s favourite sons, Nick Cave, has been overheard playing a Tess McKenna song en route through Europe. Of course Nick Cave isn’t Tess’ only fan. With an expansive performing and recording career, Tess’ songs have reached a wide & varied audience both at home & abroad & her success onstage has been evident from the beginning; Tess drives her songs with a knowing confidence, swapping easily between acoustic & electric, quiet & loud. Add to this, her rhythm section, The Shapiros & what you get is a beautiful & complex mix.
	Brett Clarke & friends Brett has just released his much anticipated debut album ‘Keep the Dream Alive’Brett is a Gunditjmara / Kirrae Whurrong Songman.The album was inspired by Brett’s late Grandfather Banjo Clarke who had a great influence on his upbringing.Artists include Chris Saunders-lead guitar, Bart Willoughby-drums, Paul Wright-bass, didgeridoo, Amy Saunders- backing vocals, Lyn Eales-backing vocals.

Yggdrasil is a five-piece group based in Melbourne who have been collaborating since early 2006. Combining folk influences from around the globe with jazz sensibilities, the group plays both original and traditional tunes with an emphasis on odd time rhythms and improvisation. With acoustic instrumentation consisting of mandolin, guitars, double bass and hand percussion, Yggdrasil create a
unique sound full of depth and character.

	Ustad Kahlil Gudaz with Ramin Nawa on Tabla & Fazila Hajeb on Tanpoora - www.khalilsitar.com A master of gayaki-ang, the "singing style" of sitar playing, Ustad Khalil Gudaz's music is said to be a mix of north Indian raga and subtle Afghani melody. At age 13 Khalil began learning the rubab and santoor, traditional Afghani instruments, before heading to India to further his tutelage. He studied under Amjad Ali Khan, a master of the sarod (a lute-like instrument similar to the rubab). Khalil, who emigrated to Melbourne in the 1980s, has performed at Queensland's Woodford Music Festival, Womadelaide and Canberra's National Folk Festival. He has since set up a sitar school where he teaches his unique, rhythmic approach to the sitar and other traditional instruments.
	NeEma - www.neema.ca Since the successful independent release of NEeMA's debut album Masì Cho across Canada in October 2006 she has been on the road constantly making inroads around the world. She spent the winter and summer of 2007 touring Canada extensively from coast to coast. She spent last spring living in Los Angeles writing her new album, which she is currently recording between Montreal and LA. She also spent last October and November touring Ireland and England, including her performance at the Garter Lane Theatre for the Waterford Arts Festival.
	Los Locos - www.loslocos.com.au Los Locos entertain with their own hybrid brand of Spanish Latin music. Their gutsy harmonies, trumpet and guitar virtuosity make you want to dance to the rhythms of their feverous, quirky and infectiously crazy tunes.
	Babylon Bicycle – www.romanastra.id.au Babylon Bicycle combine the skills of three seasoned performers delivering an exotic mix of Eastern and Western sounds and styles. Sitar, guitar, Indian violin, flutes and percussion create a unique blend.
	Slipstream - www.myspace.com/coastalslipstream Slipstream are something different. Their sound has been described as surfi groove meets atmospheric meets upbeat percussive dance. 	Carino Son Cariño Son is a new six piece Latin band playing traditional Cuban Guarachas, Son and Boleros. Their infectious rhythms and melodies have people dancing wherever they play. The line up consists of double bass, congas, bongos, two guitars, vocals and percussion.

	The O’Hooligans - www.ohooligans.com.au Borne on winds whipping around haunted Irish seas and caught on the gallant sails of creaking opium clippers, O’Hooligan's songs are delivered providentially to Australian shores. On arrival they are hoisted on camel trains across dry ranges to cities and gold fields. The blend of Irish and Australian cultures enhances the listening pleasure and care is taken to ensure musical freshness.
	Red Shed Skiffle Band This five piece band emerged from a shed out the back of Teesdale a while back and hit the road as a celtic rock outfit, took a turn off somewhere, ran into skiffle and stripped back their sound to a more homespun feel with plenty of swing and shuffle. Alongside the celtic offerings are some country songs and, of course some songs from the Woody Guthrie era, many of which featured in early skiffle bands. Some contemporary and original material is included – if it fits the “shed” feel!
	Saorise Saoirse are a vibrant vocal and dance trio from Melbourne. They delight their audiences with their beautiful renditions of traditional Irish ballads and will join hands to offer some spirited jigs and reels to your feet tapping.
	Celtic Storm Celtic Storm is Christy Cooney, Louey Hesterman, Greg Ruff, Rob Fairburn and James Cooney who play rollicking Irish tunes and ballads and traditional and contemporary Australian music. The featured instruments are: banjo, bodhran, guitar, accordion and mandolin and all contribute harmony vocals. The musicians bring with them extensive experience from such bands as the Cobbers, Paradiddle, Travelling Wallabies and Poteen.

	John Ryan John is a singer / song writer and solo guitarist, originally from Anglesea and now living in Apollo Bay. His original music is inspired by diverse artists such as John Williamson, Neil Young and Elvis Presley. A country rock artist, he sings of hope, passion and optimism.
	Steve Crombe Stroll along the sandy beach to the harbour and take in the beautiful surrounds whilst a seafarer with his mystical guitar brings his heartfelt lyrics to you in song. Apollo Bay Harbour Sunday 12 30.

Vicki creates Puppets individually with objects she finds in the backyard and her kitchen. Yuppy Beach - A Family Show When Lovey, Reno and the kids take a camping holiday on the coast they bring all of their rubbish with them. Including Lovies Giant Make-Up Bag and The Water Bed! Luckily they meet the Driftwood Man (Marionette Puppet) and through magic and wisdom, this greedy family is transformed into ‚Funky-Hippies‚ who care for and appreciate their environment. Show includes the “Ranger Rob Qui show with sort of fun prizes for nearly everyone.

	Colin Bogaars Gizmo The Great Gizmo! A juggler, a magician, a clown, a ring master a complete circus in one body. With his huge tailored red suit, top hat & distinguished moustache (Yes, it's real!) this unique character with a particular magic of his own, will Amuse, Bemuse, Dazzle, Surprise, Shock, and most of all Entertain you. “Lest We Forget – Hic Unutmaya Cagiz
A piece of storytelling music theatre that brings together, Turkish and Australian songs, poetry and stories of Gallipoli – and the legend of how the friendship our two nations now share was born in the blood of 1915. Poignant, humourous and moving, it was written by Jan Wositzky, who performed the show at Gallipoli on Anzac Say 2003. At Apollo Bay he will be joined by Turkish musician, Ozmel Ilgin on baglama and guests.

In 2008 we will be introducing a literary diversion for Sunday lunch featuring Vincent Di Stefano and guests. Poetic expression is about sound. Poetic expression is about rhythm. Poetic expression is about meaning. Like music, the experience of poetry is best had in the hearing. Dandenongs-based performance poet Vincent Di Stefano has been strongly influenced by such poets as William Blake, Gerard Manley Hopkins and Algernon Charles Swinburne over many years. He brings a blend of density, intensity and complexity to his own poetic expressions.

The 2008 Apollo Bay Music Festival is a consummate mix of musical genres and excellent artists, set in the magnificent environs of Apollo Bay.
